Sam Hasty Remembered

On Wednesday, October 10, 2001, LHS and the Ledyard community lost a dear friend and collegue. Mr. Sam Hasty passed away after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Hasty was best known to Ledyard residents as a trumpet teacher for LHS Music students. As you will see from his obituary below, Sam was much more.

                                          Samuel Hasty

Norwich - Samuel P. Hasty, 34, of Cottonwood Road, died Wednesday at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1967, in Madison, Wis., the son of Patrick and Mary Scharnke Hasty of Conway, Arkansas

He married Deanna S. Weaver on July 27, 1991.

Mr. Hasty received a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Central Arkansas, a master's degree in trumpet performance from the University of Mississippi, and was currently near completion of a doctorate in musical arts from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. As an undergraduate, he played in the Disneyland All-American College Band.

He served in the Coast Guard, and was a trumpet player in the Coast Guard Band.

Mr. Hasty played in numerous music organizations.

He was a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators and the International Trumpet Guild.

He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Gales Ferry.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Benjamin Hasty of Norwich; and a sister, Belinda Hasty of Conway, Arkansas.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Route 12 and Clark Lane, Gales Ferry.
