Russell Hammond is currently in his tenth year as Music Department Chair and Director of Choral Activities at Ledyard High School in Ledyard, Connecticut. At Ledyard Mr. Hammond directs the Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Men's Chorus, Ledyard Carolers, Ledyard Chorale, and the Ledyard Musical Theatre. As Department Chair Hammond oversees a comprehensive music program that includes over 400 students in eleven choirs and seven instrumental ensembles, music theory, music appreciation, as well as voice, guitar and keyboard class. Previous to coming to Ledyard Mr. Hammond was Director of Choirs and Theatre Arts at Lyme/Old Lyme High School for fourteen years. Professionally, Mr. Hammond was active in the American Choral Directors Association for over 15 years. He served as both President and Treasurer of the Connecticut Chapter of ACDA, ACDA Eastern Division Repertoire and Standards Chair for High School Choral Music, Connecticut State Repertoire and Standards Chair for Vocal Jazz and Show Choir and as a site chair for the 2002 ACDA National Convention in New York City and the 2004 National Convention in Los Angeles. He served as the Honor Chorus Chair for the 2004 ACDA Eastern Division H.S. Honor Chorus. His articles on choral music have been published in both state and division choral newsletters. Mr. Hammond has conducted and adjudicated festivals throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island and he was a featured clinician at the ACDA National Convention in San Antonio Texas. He is listed in both Who's Who Among American Teachers as well as Who's Who in America and was the 2003 Connecticut ACDA Choral Director of the year. As a performer Mr. Hammond has appeared in both choral and theatrical performances throughout Connecticut and he is a recipient of a Eugene O'Neill Award for his performance in Iolanthe with the East Lyme Arts Council. Mr. Hammond has been a cast member of the River Rep at the Ivoryton Playhouse and was a long time member of the Connecticut Choral Artists (CONCORA). Originally from Illinois, Hammond holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Bradley University, a Master of Music from the University of Connecticut and holds a 6th year degree in Educational Leadership at Southern Connecticut State University. Mr. Hammond lives in Killingworth, Connecticut with his wife Michele. |
