This class is designed for the beginning guitar player. Each of you should have your own instrument. The school does not provide guitars. If you do not own a guitar, you must have one by the next class. The following aspects of guitar playing will be taught:
- Reading music notation and TAB
- Reading chord symbols
- Listening
- Guitar technique
Grades are earned based on the following:
PARTICIPATION 50% of your grade will be based on what you do in the classroom.
You are expected to:
- be on time to class
- have your guitar in good working condition for each class
- have all guitar class handouts in a 3-ring notebook
- have your 3-ring notebook with guitar handouts for each class
- failure at any of the above will result in a zero for the day
- you are allotted one "freebie"
TESTS 50% of your grade will be based on your performances on tests. Some tests will be written, most tests will be playing the guitar.
HOMEWORK The word homework means "practice outside of class", most likely at home. You will be given assignments and you will be expected to practice them before the next class. There is no "homework" grade given, I will evaluate (test) each of you on the current assignment each class period. You will receive a test grade for each assignment.
Your grade for any given class will have two parts, the participation grade, and the test grade. You should never leave class without knowing what that night's assignment is.
Your first homework assignment is to bring the following items to the next class:
- a 3-ring notebook with a section for guitar class
- an assignment notebook
- your guitar in good working condition
